Wilbur came to Sunrise a "broken" pig. Some professionals even said we should consider the option of putting him down. But, we wouldn't hear of it. Yes, Wilbur had a broken spirit, but of no fault of his own. Neighbors in Marion noticed he was left abandoned in the middle of last winter with below freezing temperatures and started feeding him scraps through the fence. The neighbors contaced Marion County Health Department, who brought Marion County Humane Society into it and removed him from the situation. He is still a work in progress, though he is much better. They believe he was hit with pig sticks (sticks they hit pigs with to get them to go where they want). The vet believes he'll always have issues and triggers that bring about aggressive behaviour. We believe with time, love and the proper care the day will come when Wilbur learns to let go and trust humans again. Until that day we'll continue to work with him. Even if he never makes it to be a well behaved pig we'll accept him and love him just as he is.
