Sunrise has many types of birds that call us home, including a peacock, turkeys, chickens, domestic ducks, and geese. Meet some below.

The Turkey Girls
These three girls are Scheherazade, Hatshepsut, and Anastasia. They are Brown and white Royal Palm Turkeys and arrived in 2023 with the help of Stahls No Harm Farm. They love to wander the property together and hang out with Trevor and their special need sister, Liliuo.

Ginger
Ginger, a red-colored Silkie Rooster, was a beloved pet who was thought to be a hen. When he and his brother matured enough to be shown as roosters, they had to find new homes because where they lived didn’t allow roosters. Ginger’s brother found a home with a family friend, and Ginger ended up coming to Sunrise where he moved in with the Iowa hens as their feisty little protector. He is a bold little boy, always on the lookout for anything that could be “dangerous” to his lady friends. His flock includes Jan, Cuddy, and Rosie Hanna.

The A-Team
Murdock, Mr. T, and Templeton make up the A-Team. If you see one of these three boys, you will likely see the other two. Mr. T is a white Pekin duck with a green band on his leg. Templeton is a wild-type Mallard.

Lefty
Lefty, along with his brother Poncho (who sadly passed away in July of 2020) were rescued by someone who initially was going to take pigs they retrieved from a hog farm into 4H and later decided against it. When they came to Sunrise in the spring of 2017 they were both so little. Lefty was slightly larger and stronger than Poncho, so he didn't have as many issues. He rebounded quickly and is a happy, healthy boy who loves mud holes and belly rubs. He's a funny guy who is constantly rearranging his little house. You'll usually find him sleeping with Henry and Miracle in the front barn. He's also a big fan of treats. He's been known to bring down a door!

Trevor
Trevor is a standard black turkey who was rescued by a wonderful woman, Angie, in Dayton. She knew the family who had raised Trevor, but they had to leave him behind when they were evicted. Angie fed and cared for Trevor as best she could and reached out to Sunrise to find him a forever home. Trevor adores people and will follow them around, asking to be cuddled and displaying his gorgeous feathers to them. We suspect he was hand-raised, and while he does live with turkey friends, his favorite thing to do is to show off for his favorite humans.

Liliuokalani
Liliuokalani, aka Liliuo, is a special little girl because she developed a condition that left her almost completely blind. The vets did a thorough exam and weren’t sure what caused it, but it could be a genetic condition. Because of her special requirements, Liliuo moved in with Potter the duck and his special-needs friends where she can be safe and spoiled. In 2025, Liliuo’s worse eye (the right) got an ulcer and she was rushed to OSU where she had to have that eye removed. She handled it super well and continues to thrive in her yard with her friends.

Luna
Luna is grey laced/penciled hen who lives a life of luxury as a house chicken. When the weather is unappealing, as it can be here in central Ohio, Luna hangs out inside Mindy's house with the cats and dogs and enjoys every moment!
